Take note: You don't have to use two scoops Aug 22, 2011

QUICK SUMMARY: If you're shopping for this product, you already know what it is and how to use it, since this is a replacement reagent for the FAS-DPD kits like the Taylor K-2106 FAS-DPD Bromine Complete Test Kit. This is the *best* way to test free and combined chlorine in your pool or spa.
What I LIKE:
- Using this powder, I can precisely test my pool's free and combined chlorine levels
- The little blue scoop is nicely attached to the powder bottle, so it doesn't get lost
- I rely on my own pool testing, and not on the testing or advice from "pros" at the nearby pool store
DID YOU KNOW?
The instruction pamphlet that comes with Taylor's testing kits say to use TWO scoops of this DPD powder, but if your test water sample turns pink after adding just ONE scoop of this reagent, you don't need to add a second scoop? As long as the water turns pink after adding the first scoop of powder, the testing procedure is unaffected by not adding a second scoop. What that means to you is that you can test your water for twice as many times now before you have to buy a replacement reagent bottle.
And that saves you money!!!

Replacement Reagent Sep 28, 2011
By Thomas (Sherri's husband)

I'm guessing if you're looking at this product it's because you need additional replacement reagent. This is the direct replacement reagent for Taylor FAS-DPD chlorine testing kits.
As a review, this product is a direct replacement for the one which came in your test kit. And as a product, when coupled with the FAS reagent (R-0871-A), for the price, is consistently the most accurate free chlorine test reagent available. I don't think more expensive colorimeter testers are going be consistently more accurate for pool/spa water test purposes. I base the prior statement on trying most of the available methods of testing for free chlorine and after great effort on my part reviewing alternative methods, have settled on using this method.
A suggestion, if you're like me and test far to often for chlorine, buy a larger quantity of this product and refill the bottle that came with the kit yourself. Much cheaper that way. Look up R-0870-J for a quarter pound bottle of this reagent. Do the math on the delivered price vs equal amounts of these smaller 10g dispensers of DPD powder. You're looking at a savings of about eighty dollars between the two product sizes. My recommendation, buy a more expensive quarter pound bottle of DPD reagent each year so as to get the best possible price, convenience and to help maintain freshness of product as Taylor recommends replacement of all reagents at least once a year.
Hope the above helps.
