5Great way to verify your pool's salinity  Mar 15, 2011 By Stephen Rivers
I have been using AquaChek salt test strips, but after a bottle of strips "went bad" and would no longer work properly, I wanted a way to verify their accuracy. After some research I ordered the Taylor kit and have been very pleased with the results. The results from the Taylor kit are very close to the results from fresh AquaChek strips. A wide difference indicates that it's time to throw away those old strips. To use the Taylor kit you put 10 ml of pool water in the sample tube, then add one drop of the chromate indicator. Then add drops of the silver nitrate indicator, counting each drop and swirling the mixture. When the mixture goes from a creamy white to a salmon pink, multiply the number of drops that you added by 200 to get your ppm of salt. For example if you added 18 drops to turn the mixture from white to pink, then your salinity is 3600 ppm. WARNING - keep these chemicals away from children - they should ONLY be handled by adults! Also, silver nitrate will stain your skin black. As in permanently. As in it will have to wear off naturally. So wear gloves and be careful. Also would like to mention that I called Taylor customer service with a question about the color change, and they were refreshingly pleasant and helpful.

5Accurate salt level in my pool  Sep 20, 2010 By GEC
My AquaRite Turbo Cell failed, causing me to pour too much salt into my salt water pool. I had no way to determine the real salt level. I bought this kit (and a new turbo cell) to solve the problem.

This kit revealed what I already suspected: the salt level was way too high. I was not happy with that news, but the Taylor test kit performed well. I will be able to avoid this problem when the new turbo cell wears out in a few years.

A word of warning: salt water pools are great, but the builders never talk about the real maintenance issues of a salt pool. If you have a salt pool, get this test kit. You will need it.

5Test Kit Works  Jul 23, 2011 By john
Just like everyone looking for infomation on products. I have a salt water pool system and the first year was out of wack. I should have dialed in the salt level. Add just a little at a time. The key is to take your time. The test kit works just like it should, water is very clear and is staying that way. Just stay up on your test. Another web site that helped [...] this site has everything you'll need to get your pool in the best shape ever.

5excellent experience  May 10, 2012 By socal consumer
I read that Taylor products are the best for home usage. I have to agree. Using their kits leave no doubt about the results. When the color changes, it is obvious and you have your results. Amato shipped very quickly. Very satisfied customer. I am posting the same review of the Taylor K-2006 test kit. I highly recommend both.
